Itinerary

Welcome to Windhoek, Namibia's captivating capital, your starting point for the Namibia road trip. Nestled among the Auas Mountains and Khomas Hochland, Windhoek's valley is fed by ancient hot springs. Explore historical sites, museums, galleries, and craft shops. The city offers modern conveniences, great restaurants, and shops. Our representative will escort you to the hotel and there you will meet the enthusiastic AO family of travelers who will be your companions for the next 9 days, exploring Namibia one kilometer at a time.

Namibia awaits to welcome you with open arms so get acquainted with your 4x4 vehicle and hit the road with the fleet as your expedition leader announces “Convoy Rolling” over the walkie-talkies. The journey south reveals Namibia's dramatic landscapes as you drive through the stunning Spreetshoogte Pass where we will make some photo stops to appreciate the remote beauty. Arriving in Sossusvlei by evening, enjoy a luxurious dinner while discussing your exciting Namibia road trip.

Set out on an early adventure to the remarkable Sossusvlei. Renowned for its towering red dunes, the world's highest at 300 meters, and the striking 900-year-old trees in the white salt pan of Deadvlei, Sossusvlei is a must-visit spot in Namibia. Alongside the dunes, you will also get to explore Sesriem Canyon. The surreal beauty, from shapes to colors, is enhanced by ancient trees and desert-adapted wildlife like gemsbok, springbok, and ostrich.

This particular day will challenge your driving skills on open, empty country roads amid Namibia's stunning landscapes. Your expedition leader will provide driving tips over the radio, helping you tackle gravel roads as you leave a trail of dust clouds in your wake. Our itinerary includes crossing the Tropic of Capricorn, a possible detour to Ganab for the Welwitschia Plains and the stunning Moon Landscape. Another charming touch is a picnic-style lunch in the middle of nowhere that awaits you. By evening, we'll reach Swakopmund.

Nestled between Namibia's ancient Namib Desert and the bountiful Atlantic Ocean, the towns of Swakopmund and Walvis Bay buzz with activity and adventure. Our afternoon promises an adrenaline-pumping 4x4 drive through the extraordinary sand dunes of Sandwich Harbour, an experience that will eclipse any previous dune-bashing memories.

Part of Namib Naukluft Park, Sandwich Harbour is a hidden gem, where the world's highest dunes meet the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, creating a picturesque lagoon. This day will most definitely be a highlight of your Namibia road trip itinerary.

Get ready for a long day on the road as we head north towards the Etosha National Park. As your self-drive adventure continues, you'll grow comfortable on gravel roads, journeying through remote landscapes with wind in your hair. Enjoy photo stops, tea breaks, and lunch in Otjiwarongo, where the Cheetah Conservation Fund resides. After lunch, we'll head to Etosha and reach our luxury lodge for a scenic sundowner and dinner beneath the African stars.

Commence your Namibian adventure with an early morning expedition into Etosha National Park, the country's premier safari destination. A custom-fitted vehicle and expert ranger accompany you, ensuring a memorable experience.

Etosha uniquely offers prime game viewing during the day's heat as hundreds of plains game gather at waterholes to drink. You can witness up to seven different species at these oases, including rhinos- both black and white, and Namibian treasures like the gemsbok and springbok. Southern Africa's big game, from elephants to cheetahs, wildebeest, Burchell’s plains Zebra and more graces the landscape.

On the last day of the Namibia road trip, we will be heading back to Windhoek. But here's the exciting twist: we're returning to Etosha National Park for a self-drive adventure. You get to witness the magnificent wildlife in your own vehicles which is a rare and unforgettable experience you’ll cherish forever. After exploring Etosha, the convoy will hit the road to Windhoek, with a delicious stop at Outjo's famous bakery for lunch. In the evening, you will get to celebrate your successful drive at a luxurious restaurant with your fellow travelers.

After an incredible 9-day Namibia road trip, blending hidden gems with iconic sights, it's time to bid farewell to this breathtaking part of the world and the newfound friends you've made. We're ready to take you to the airport for your journey back home, with excitement for our next exploration of our beautiful planet.

Namibia’s natural riches extend far beyond its iconic landscapes. The country’s wildlife is equally captivating and diverse, making Namibia safaris a significant highlight of any road trip. Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s premier wildlife reserves, is a prime destination for safari enthusiasts. Here, travelers can witness herds of elephants, zebras, giraffes, and the elusive big cats in their natural habitat. Etosha’s vast salt pans add an otherworldly dimension to the safari experience.

Other wildlife-rich regions, such as Damaraland and Kaokoland, offer opportunities to track desert-adapted elephants and rhinos. Here, travelers have a chance to engage in conservation efforts, supporting the protection of these remarkable creatures in their arid environment.

Namibia safaris are not limited to land-based adventures. The country’s rugged coastline is home to marine wildlife, including seals, dolphins, and the majestic desert-adapted oryx. Coastal excursions provide an opportunity to observe these unique species and even engage in activities like kayaking alongside seals in the cold waters of the Atlantic Ocean.
